As soon as adopted boys or girls reach adolescence, they often confront their parents with problems.  The period in which "the birds leave the nest" is not always the most pleasant one.  However, it is not always evident that the said problems occur more often in adoptive families than in other families.

The book presented here enabled the Adoption Centre to find answers to many questions.  The youngsters who talk about themselves in the discussed investigation, are all 15 to 20 years of age and their native country is Thailand.  The entire group has been investigated before (1985), but that was mainly by way of interviewing their parents.  Here the adoptive children speak for themselves about how they experience their adoption, their having been given up for adoption, and their relationship with their parents, peers or other people.  Special attention has been paid to the question whether these youngsters have specific puberty problems and whether these problems manifest themselves in various social or behavioral problems.
With the help of large amounts of information a first and general judgement could be reached about adopted youngsters during adolescence.  This information has also been the basis of various kinds of advice for the parents and the youngsters themselves.  This does not only turn this book into a useful item for adoptive parents and adopted youngsters, but also for social workers and members of adoption organizations.
