This book presents the results of a research project conducted for the European Commission, aimed at enhancing the prevention of trafficking in human beings and sexual exploitation of children.

The rationale for the project was to prepare possible self-regulation or public-private co-operation in several sectors by establishing tailor-made European quality standards for the respective sectors and testing the feasibility of their introduction. The sectors under study were: employment organisations, marriage bureaus, travel, escort, au-pair or adoption agencies, telecommunication and internet service providers, prostitution and pornography.

The proposed European quality labels may improve the fight against trafficking in human beings and sexual exploitation as they are proof of an ethical commitment of private organisations that have either an intrinsic vulnerability for trafficking in human beings or sexual exploitation of children or have strategic potential to play a key role in the prevention of the said phenomena.

The book is essential reading for private organisations, policy makers, governmental and non-governmental organisations, judicial and law enforcement authorities throughout the European Union. It will also be appealing to researchers and anyone involved in the fight against trafficking in human beings and sexual exploitation of children at European or international level.
